Humanitarian response

Earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia

On 24 June 2026, two powerful earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela. On 10 August, a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia. At Mis Anawim Mundi we have launched an urgent response and are already sending aid to both countries.

What happened

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 were recorded seconds apart in the state of Yaracuy. The coastal state of La Guaira has been the worst affected, with more than a hundred buildings collapsed, and serious damage is reported in Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo and Falcón. Authorities have declared a state of emergency. On 10 August 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicenter near San José del Palmar (Chocó); it is the country's deadliest since 1999, with Valle del Cauca and Risaralda among the worst-affected departments. We are widening our response to reach both countries.

What we are doing

Mis Anawim Mundi has already distributed aid in Venezuela —2 tonnes of medicines and medical products in 2024— and we have supplies and contacts on the ground. We are now actively sending aid to both Venezuela and Colombia, and we need to strengthen logistics to scale up the response.

Before you hand over your donations

To make the process easier, we need you to sort them beforehand:

  2. 2When you hand over your donations, give us an inventory of the contents of each box.
  3. 3This will let us speed up the sorting and shipping process.
